Meeting Minutes

January 10, 2007

10:00 a.m. at AEOA Office, Virginia

 

Cathy Pazzelli, President, called the meeting to order with opening comments and self-introductions.  Thirty people were in attendance.  

 

Cathy introduced the guest speaker, Patricia Sauer.  Her topic, Meetings That Work, looked at why we have meetings and 8 ways to make meetings better.  She also identified strategies, tips and tools for a well planned and effective meeting. 

 

During the mini-discussion, people shared their company plans for vacation, sick, PTO, or VHS; along with different approaches when switching plans.

 

After a break, the group reconvened for the Business meeting.  Minutes from the last meeting were distributed and approved with corrections.  Cathy explained changes in the 2007 board members - Bobbie Buss and Sheri Undeland are the Associate Liaisons.

 

Secretary/ Treasurer Report:  Nancy Tepovich reported the AHRA bank balance is $2,542.91 with 26 paid members. 

 

Legislative Report:  Paul Carlson stated the fall elections have changed the state and national landscapes.   Items to watch this year include minimum wage, health care, and FMLA.  Additional information can be found on the SHRM website.

 

President Report:

- Bylaws revisions which have been approved by SHRM are on the AHRA website – arrowheadhra.org

- Asked members for ideas to increase membership

- Anyone interested to speak at the Hibbing Kiwanis on January 24 should let Cathy know today

    

Other business:

- Holly Waisanen reviewed the October seminar evaluations.  High marks were received in all areas.  Anyone interested in helping with the 2007 seminar should talk to Holly.

- AHRA meeting topic ideas should be given to Holly Waisanen, Program Chair.  Suggested topics included work comp, ADA, employee recognition.  Mini-topics:  chemical abuse policies chemical abuse issues (how to handle when you think they are), internet policies (what is successful).  Sheri Undeland will check with Blandin Foundation’s IT person for samples.  Others can send samples to Holly or bring copies.

- No CEUs for this meeting.  Four weeks notice is needed for SHRM approval.

- Chapter Achievement Plan (CAPs) report:  Connie Larson will be sending the report to SHRM.  AHRA has enough points to qualify for a Merit Award.

- Website report:  Connie Larson who is managing the site which includes photos, job openings, and links is looking for ideas, comments.

- Terri Nystrom said the Iron Range Job Fair, at the Thunderbird Mall on March 20 is looking for a person to do two sessions “interview tips for job seekers”.  Contact Terri at tnystrom@deltadentalmn.org,

    

 

The next AHRA meeting is scheduled 10:00 am, Wednesday, April 11, Blandin Foundation, 100 North Pokegama Avenue, Grand Rapids.  Sheri U. will send directions to Nancy T which will be included in mailings.  The meeting adjourned at approximately 12:10 pm.
