In Attendance:  Jamie Janezich, Dale Gilbertson, Melissa Fuller, Amy Klima, Jenn Tiedeman, Connie Larson, Jill Klapatch

Guest:  Trent Janezich

Meeting called to order at 10:10 a.m.

Jamie opened the meeting by introducing Trent Janezich from the Arrowhead University Center.  Trent explained that he was working on bringing an MBA program from UMD to the Iron Range.  It is expected to start in the Fall of 2009.  He asked for input on the program and suggestions on ways to reach out to potentially interested parties.  He said he was developing a survey to determine interest and sustainability.  Amy suggested doing the survey online instead of by mail. Jamie agreed to send out an email to AHRA members and past conference attendees regarding the survey.  Jenn suggested that Trent speak at the all-day conference about this program and other programs offered through the Arrowhead University Center.  Connie said that information about the program and survey could be put on the AHRA website.

Jamie noted that the following people had volunteered to help with the all-day conference:  Shari Undeland, Nikki Cianni, Amy Klima, Jenn Tiedeman, and Connie Larson.  Amy will be the committee chair.  The Board tentatively set September 24, 2008 as the date for the conference.  Amy will check to see if the Mt. Iron Community Center is available.  Committee members will also check to see if there are other events scheduled that day in the area.  Last year’s conference conflicted with a Hibbing job fair.  Several topics were suggested:  unemployment, employment law, humor in the workplace, and wellness programs.  Amy will schedule a meeting of the committee and report back to the Board.

Jamie reported that AHRA had been awarded a Superior Merit Award by SHRM for 2007 based on CAPS report results.  Connie will add this distinction to the AHRA website.  Jamie will forward a press release to Terri Nystrom for distribution.  The Board discussed the 2008 CAPS report.  Jamie noted two areas where we needed to concentrate:  college relations and SHRM membership.

Jamie stated that no one had applied yet for the 2008 AHRA scholarships.  The deadline is May 15.  Amy and Jenn sent information to all local colleges and emails went out to AHRA members.  The Board agreed to extend the deadline to June 15, 2008.  Jenn will place ads in local newspapers to try to get applicants.  If there are no applicants, the scholarship will be rolled over to 2009.  The committee will try to come up with better ways to publicize the scholarships.

The July quarterly meeting will be held at Iron Range Resources on July 9 at 10:00 a.m. with Holly Waisanen speaking on “Diversity.”  Amy noted that HRCI credit had been approved for the meeting.

Dale noted that Mesabi Community College would be hosting the October quarterly meeting.  The Board agreed on “Recruiting” as the topic and asked Dale to set it up with Tina Royer, the Provost.  Lunch will be provided at the meeting.  Notices will be put up around the school encouraging students to attend the meeting and join AHRA.

Jamie and Amy will be attending the MN-SHRM Leadership Conference in Brainerd next week.

Jamie and Nikki will be attending the SHRM National Conference in Chicago in June.

Jamie reported that a provider group he belongs to will be hosting two dynamic motivational speakers in June.  He said he will send out an email about the meeting and encouraged everyone to attend if they can.

Meeting adjourned at 11:20 a.m.
