Meeting Minutes
10:00 a.m. Northern Habilitative Services in Chisholm
Opening comments and welcome by Jamie Janezich. Connie Larson, President, opened the meeting with self-introductions. Twenty-four people were in attendance. Minutes from the last meeting were distributed and approved.
Holly Waisanen, introduced the guest speaker, Brenda Metcalf from MII Life. The topic of her presentation was “Flexible Spending Accounts.” She discussed the various options available to employers.
After a break, the group reconvened for the Business meeting.
Treasurer’s Report – Nancy Tepovich, Secretary/Treasurer - The bank balance is $3,018.98.
Membership Report – Connie Larson reported for Donna Hoffer - 27 members have paid their 2006 dues to date. Average meeting attendance is 20 people with a maximum of 30 and a minimum of 12.
Legislative update - Paul Carlson – distributed a handout about national health care issues. On the state level, there are 27 pages of bills relating to HR concerns (many which were carried over from last year’s session).
Connie Larson reviewed 2006 goals:
* member recruitment - recruitment ideas: distribute brochures, request area Chambers e-mail information to members, AHRA speaker presentations
* increase participation in state level activities; MN SHRM council meeting in Brainerd, MN SHRM conference in St. Cloud in the fall
* diversity issues
Cathy Pazzelli gave a Website update.
AHRA fall workshop will be held on October 4, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. Discussed possible sites, potential speakers, the program schedule with a main speaker and ideas for breakout sessions, and a display area for vendors. Subcommittee will meet April 21, 2:30 pm at the Arrowhead Center in Virginia. Target about 100 attendees. Cost is unknown.
Other discussion: Holly Waisanen shared information about the regional tourism fest which is open to the service and hospitality industry that will be held at Fortune Bay on June 5.
The next meeting is scheduled for July 12, 2006, possibly at DNR in Grand Rapids.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 11:50 am.
