Meeting Minutes

April 11, 2007

Cathy Pazzelli, President, called the meeting to order.  Thirty people were in attendance.  The guest speaker,

Mariann Pennetz, works as a Vocational Rehabilitation Placement Counselor for the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).  She gave an overview of American Disabilities Act (ADA) in the workplace from the employer’s perspective.

 

After a break, the group reconvened for the Business meeting.  Minutes from the last meeting were approved. 

Nancy Tepovich, Secretary / Treasurer reported the AHRA bank balance is $3,137.91 with 42 paid AHRA members  Karen Zupancich, Membership Chair, discussed how our chapter benefits if members are also a member of SHRM.  Paul Carlson’s legislative update included health care reform, work opportunity tax credit, and Federal minimum wage.  Check out the SHRM website for more information. 

 

Holly Waisanen, Program Chair, reviewed possible future topics:  performance evaluations, chemical abuse, internet policies, personality profiles.

 

Cathy Pazzelli, President, reported the Chapter Achievement Plan (CAPs) report was approved and AHRA was awarded a 2006 Merit Award and will receive a banner and certificate.  Membership is a core leadership area that needs to be addressed this year. 

 

Upcoming events:  Diversity training is scheduled on April 19 at Mesabi College.  A panel discussion will be held in the morning followed by a student forum in the late afternoon.  Also, a forum will be held at the Presbytarian Church on April 26.  A leadership conference will be held in Alexandria.  The MN SHRM conference is scheduled October 14-16 in St. Cloud.  The SHRM website also offers webcasts.

    

Other Reports:

- The committee is working on the October seminar.  Two speakers have been secured.  One topic is ‘Humor is      the Workplace’.

- Amy Klima gave information for CEU credits for this meeting. 

- Connie Larson discussed a website option through SHRM.  Although the set-up is free, there is a $19.00      domain name fee every four years.  We will continue with the current AHRA site.

 

 

The next AHRA meeting is scheduled 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 11, in the East Range area.  Amy Klima will check out potential sites in the Ely area.  The meeting adjourned at approximately 11:55 am.
