10:00 a.m. at AEOA- Virginia, MN

Connie Larson, President, welcomed everyone to the meeting and proceeded with self-introductions from the members.  Minutes from the last meeting were reviewed and approved.  There was also a handout on legal issues available from the October 2005 meeting when we had a local attorney speak to the group.  Pat Grahek, Arrowhead Center, was the guest speaker on Meth in the Workplace.

Business Meeting:

Treasurer’s Report- Connie Larson reported a bank balance of $2311.00.  We have money available to pay for speakers, lunches, etc. or any ideas from the group would be welcome.

Membership Report- Donna Hoffer reported we currently have 16 paid members for 2006.  In 2005 we had 35 members and 41 members in 2004. The membership application and dues statement was sent via e-mail and hard copies made available at the meeting.

Legislative Update- Paul Carlson reported to the group that the SHRM website is a good resource to check for any legal issues or updates.  There are a few items to follow:

*      Increased employer responsibility to check on eligibility/legality of immigrant workers.  At this time it passed in the House.

*      Bill that is aimed to coordinate Health Saving Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts.

*      Being it’s the beginning of a year, it’s a good time to check/update Federal & State mandated employment posters.

Secretary/Treasurer Position- Connie Larson reported that Holly Haugen is unable to accept the position she was elected for therefore the next two vote getters were contacted and also unable to fulfill the position at this time.  Connie opened the position up to any Volunteers or nominations at this time.  Nancy Tepovich, Range Center, volunteered for the Secretary/Treasurer position.

SHRM State Conference Update- Jamie Janezich reported that the October 2005 State meeting was a success.  Overall the sessions included a good variety of topics for the HR field.  It was a good opportunity to network and get HR updates.

Website Update- Cathy Pazzelli reported that she will contact Cliff Tanner to assist with setting up the AHRA website.  We have the domain name secured and Cliff offered training and initial setup if we use the State recommended template.

Training Day- Connie Larson asked for volunteers for a sub-committee that would work on researching & coordinating a full day seminar hosted by AHRA in the fall.  Donna H, Amy K, Holly W, and Amy F volunteered.

Other Discussion Items-  Holly Waisanen shared information about a Cultural Diversity Board she serves on.  Amy K. commented that the on-line study course for certification was very helpful.
